Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the answers to a lot of questions you may have about what you will need and what we would recommend you have whilst on your motorcycle learning journey with us.

If you are unable to find an answer to a specific question, please feel free to use the Contact Us form at the bottom of the page where we would be delighted to help you.

What should I wear?

If you have specific motorcycle gear, brilliant!

If not, the very minimum we ask is that you wear a pair of jeans and a sturdy pair of boots. We have a limited supply of jackets, helmets and gloves we can lend you.

We do not recommend you wear steel toe cap boots for your first time riding a manual motorcycle as some students find it difficult to operate the gear lever, but if this is all you have, they are better than a pair of trainers!

Are tracksuit bottoms trainers ok?

No, things like training trousers, shorts, t-shirts and trainers offer no protection whatsoever. If you arrive wearing unsuitable clothing you will not be allowed to train and will lose your fee as per our terms and conditions.

Do I need to read the Highway Code?

Absolutely, you MUST have read, understood and be able to comply with the Highway Code. It is also advisable to learn more about the road signs you are likely to see on the UK roads. You can access the 'Highway Code' and 'Know your traffic signs' for FREE using the links below. (These will open in a new tab for you).

Do I need to have a theory test for my CBT?

No, but you must know the Highway Code. We highly recommend using the below FREE course which has been developed by the DVSA to help you understand the basic principles of road safety.

There are also a number of free trial apps for you to use on your smartphone, please search for these using either the app store or google play store to help test your knowledge.

We highly recommend the: Driving Theory 4 in 1 Kit

English isn't my first language, is this OK?

Of course it is. However, all courses are taught in English, therefore, we would expect you to be able to understand and be able to communicate with your instructor at a "conversational level". (CEFR level B1).

What do I need to bring with me on the day?

Driving license

License summary

Mobile phone

Credit or Debit card (just in case)

Sensible clothing (dress in layers, if it's warm, you can take layers off, if it's cold, you'll need to add layers to keep warm).

Good pair of sturdy boots.

Possibly a bottle of water and some food. There is a supermarket nearby if you need to purchase anything during the day.

Will I need earphones?

Yes, you will need a basic set of plug in earphones with a 3.5mm audio jack.

Don't worry if you forget, we will have them available to buy on the day, prices starting from just £3.50.

We are able to accept contactless payment from most major card suppliers and Apple Pay.

Bluetooth ear buds do not work with our radios.

You will need these as it is a legal requirement that the instructor is in communication with you at all times during the road ride elements of the courses.

If you have a microphone on them, we will supply you with some electrical tape and ask you to tape them up to prevent wind noise for the other students.

Can I park onsite?

Yes, we operate in a public car park and North Somerset Council have kindly agreed to give us a 50% discount on their normal fees. Should you require parking, this is an option you can tick when booking the course and the fee is currently £3 for the whole day.

Please remember to add your vehicle numberplate to the booking.

Motorcycles can park for free next to the training area.

People being dropped off are welcome to enter the car park, but are limited to 15 minutes before their vehicle must leave the car park again.

I've never ridden a motorcycle before, what do you recommend?

Riding a motorcycle is all about balance. If you can ride a push bike, most people can transition across motorcycles.

There is no way of us guaranteeing how well you will do during a CBT so we ALWAYS advise taking a 1.5 hour trial lesson first to see how you do on a motorcycle and, of course, if you like it. Some people try it and decide it's really not for them and this is fine.

Trial lessons can be booked HERE

I've booked a course, but need to change the date, can I do this myself?

Yes, we allow you to change any aspect of your booking up to 72 hours before your course is due to start.

Just log in to the student portal and amend your booking.

What time do I need to be there?

All daytime courses start at 08:00 sharp. We recommend all students arrive 15 minutes earlier so you can be registered and have your licenses checked alongside your license summaries.

Our evening sessions (CBT theory only) start at 18:00 and will be approximately 1.5 hours. We run our evening sessions so you are able to spend more time riding the motorcycles on the day of your CBT course.

A1, A2 and DAS license courses start at either 08:00 or 13:00 depending on the session you have booked.

Any student arriving late will be refused training and will lose their fee as per our terms and conditions.

How long are the courses?

A full 1st time CBT is approximately 8 hours. We run an evening theory session, so on the day of your CBT we would aim to finish the last road ride at around 15:00.

A1, A2 and DAS courses are offered in 4 hour blocks and can be taken in either a morning or afternoon session. The number of sessions required depends entirely on the riders ability.

Why don't you advertise a phone number?

And we think that's a really good question!

We decided some time back that we would only operate a 'virtual' office. This helps to not only keep the running costs down, but also free up the instructors to do what they do best...teach!

Everything we do is available online, but if you do want to talk to us, of course we can arrange this. Simply fill in the contact form on the 'Contact Us' page with your enquiry and request a call back. We will endevour to call you back as soon as possible.

These calls are often made after 17:00 as it is company policy to ensure instructors do not use telephones whilst teaching. We want them focussed on you!

I wasn't successful on my CBT, how long should I leave it until I try again?

Well, this depends on what the problem was. If it is control of the motorcycle during the off-road training element of the course, we offer a 4 hour resit course which often suits many students as the teaching ratio is reduced to just 2:1. This will also incorporate the necessary 2 hour road ride if the instructor is happy with the progress made and the student feels confident enough to attempt it. We generally advise leaving it at least 1 week so you can reflect on your performance and learning.

If it was simply because you'd failed to read the highway code and it is just the road ride element you need to complete, the 2 hour resit course is for you. However, we don't recommend booking it until you've read the book of course!

Do you sell motorbikes?

We do not sell motorcycles as a rule. At the end of a motorcycles working life with us, approx 3 years, we will sell them off. These will be posted to our facebook pages.

Do you have a smoking area?

Although we do not allow smoking on the training pad itself, we do operate in an open air car park and you are free to smoke or vape outside the barriers.
